Thanks Diane.  Incredible winter for so many of us!  Too bad that along with the beauty Mother Nature creates there's so much disruption to deal with.

Any takers for answering August trivia question?  Time is running out.

Michael Silverstein

I believe that Victor Fredricks, Arlee Reno and Howard Daniels, all very bright students, may have also been Merit Scholarship finalists.    Michael Silverstein

It has to be simple, but I don't have a clue ! lol

Not so simple Nancy.  Stay tuned, however, as we do have a winner who will be announced later today.

TRIVIA QUESTION

We have a WINNER for our trivia question - Michael Silverstein nailed it!  Arlee Reno, Victor Friedrich and Howard Daniels were all Merit Scholarship Finalists for the Class of 1962.   Congrats to all!

Now the kicker, how many more Merit Scholarship Finalists were there in the Class of 1962 and who are they?

Web Site Milestone

Recently aphs1962.com hosted its 20,000 visitor.  And guess who it was - none other than Gloria Silverstein Ulozas, Michael’s sister?  The Silverstein’s may want to pool their good fortune and buy a lottery ticket before August ends.

Michael Silverstein

I already won the lottery with my wife, children and grandchildren.  I would only be guessing concerning  the follow up question, but possibly Toby Appel, Ronald Taft, Stephen Klitzman and Paul Agris would be in the mix.   Michael

08/19/14 10:08 AM #12

Arlee Reno

Ron Taft was the fourth.  As my message to Michael stated, this was one test one day and I fondly remember our many other brilliant and talented classmates.  And I am not going to list them.

08/20/14 10:09 AM #13

Vincent Gorman

Arlee is correct on BOTH points – Ron was our fourth Merit Scholarship Finalist AND, indeed, the Class of 1962 has many, many talented members as events and time have so commendably proven.  Although clearly bias in my feelings, the Class of 1962 may undeniably be APHS’s finest.

What do you think???

PS – Michael, there are no rules against winning another lottery – go for it!

Betty Ann Moore (Mela)

I am continually impressed by the warmth and generosity of spirit found in the comments shared on this website, With all the disquieting national and international news, it is a pleasure to know that I will always find kind and supportive connections posted by members of the APHS class of '62. We are a very special class indeed.

Congrats Vinnie on our 20,000 plus web site visitors. With our 2-year reunion anniversary coming up in October 2014 shall we make another effort to get some of our 90 or so "missing" classmates to join our web site community?

And I agree also with Betty Ann that our community and the web site are a helpful antidote to the otherwise grim national and international news we've had in the sunner of 2014!

Steve,

Do you think we can reengage our "Super Sleuth" team of investigators to help out?

Steve Klitzman

One immediate question: when you'rte typing a response here can you save it if you want to check another  web site or page of this web site? I ask because I keep losing the text of responses I type when I think I'm minmizing them to check another item and then when I come back to what I've typed my response is gone and I have to start over again as I will now:

1. I could recontact our search team-- Wilma Wright, Bob Villapiano and Steve Castello- but would it make more sense to send out the postcard again wre sent out last fall?

2. Do you still have the list we used to mail out the postcards as well as posisble extra postcards? If not, could you have more made in North Carolina and resend the postcard to the misisng list?

3. Here's my latest review of the misisng group we should be targeting:

a. 380 in class

b. 207 on web site

c.  68 deceased

d. That should leave a missing group of 105.

e. The web siite now lists 101 as missing, i.e., no email address in system.

f. I think I sent you these names before but I count at least 12 on the list of 101 who either don't have computers- Carolun Ann Bennett, Mary Ellen Habershaw, and Ollie Jones, or who want to be left alone- Valerlie Aiello, Michael Bianchini, and Provita Webb, or for whom I think we have street addresses and who should be on the list to whom we sent the postcard last fall- Karen Freedman Becker, Martin Greensapn, Susan Shaw Beyer, Cliff Sofield, Dennis Stanley,  and David Stomaker. Were these last six on the list you used to mail out the postcard?

Please reply and we can figure out what to do next

Steve.

Really great job, Vinnie and Steve! Any word on Paula Goldberg?  Perhaps Ann Sue Treston or Pam Uslan (Hirsch) can track her down.  She was married and divorced right after graduation (I think) and lived in Lakewood?????  ....had a sister Andrea (Andy) who graduated in 63 or 64...Perhaps someone in that class can locate her.   If no luck, get back to me and I'll scout around.

Steve,

Unfortunately forum posts cannot be saved.  Suggest you consider using a text editor for important and/or lengthy messages and then copy and paste to the forum .

I'll get back to you on the the other items next day or so.

Missing Classmates – Response to Earlier Questions

Steve,

Please see my response to your questions below.  Let me know what you think.

1. Not sure it is worth the investment(*) to send postcards again as the last mailing only yielded five (5) new web site registrations.  FYI - the final list included 87 classmates with four (4) postcards returned as undeliverable.  That’s good news, i.e., only 4 returned as undeliverable, as we can be fairly confident the remaining 78 addresses on file are current.

My gut tells me we are more likely to gain new members with a personal call, preferably from a fellow classmate(s) who was a friend, than a second mailing.  What if we send an email to all classmates on the site to ask them to review the missing classmate list and to identify classmate(s) they’d be willing to call and/or send a personal note.

2. Yes I have the master postcard mailing list.  There are no extra postcards as far as I know.  Perhaps the printer may have extras.  If it is decided to conduct a second mailing we can look into best source.  I’m inclined to favor Jerry in Maryland as he already has the postcard and mailing list digitized.

3. f.  Yes all 6 were included in the original mailing.

(*) I think the reunion account balance is fairly low -- should check with Wendy for the latest figure.

* * * * *

To Sylvia’s question about Paula Goldberg – we do not have any information on file for Paula Goldberg.

Vinnie-

Thanks for the detailed response. I like your idea of asking clasmsates on the web site to review the missing list and let us know if they know how and where to contact any of the missing. Let's do it and see what response we get.

I'm still not sure of the accuracy of our "missing list" on the web site. I think I posted on the web site at one time a list of approximately 35 "really misisng" classmates for whom we had zero contact information- no email or street address. I'll look in my word files and send you that list after I send you this email. We can compare it to the msising list of 101 now on the web site.

Assuming I'm correct about the 35 really missing folks, if we add that number to the 87 you said you mailed out the postcards to classmates for whom we had at least a street address, that would give us 122  classmates for whom we have no email addreses, not 101 as on the "missing" list now on the web site.

Let's see if we can clarify our missing list and then post it on thre web site and ask classmates to check it for conrtact info for missing classmates, including we hope email addresses.

We could post it in two sections: no contact info at all and only street addresses.

There may also be a residual group of probably 10-20% of our classmates, or 40-80 of the 380 or so class,, who just don't want to be bothered with our class and the web site. But if so, that would still leave us as many as.40-80 more classmates who may yet join the web site. That's a good number to shoot for.

Nancy,

Would you be willing to reach out to Karen to see if she is interested in registering on the web site?

Thanks for the info...Vinnie

Regina (Ginny) Michelson

Regarding Karen Becker. She is my friend, and I went to the reunion with her. In fact, i went to the last reunion with her.

We have discussed this, and she is not interested in joining, as she doesn't like anything to do with computers, emails, etc. I know several people who feel the same way. They just don't trust anything on the web and emails in particular.

Perhaps if there is a way, that some of the people who feel this way about computers, could still be included via postal mail.

Ginny,

We understand Karen's concerns.  As you indicated she's not alone as we have a half a dozen or so classmates who feel the same.  Good news is if she should ever change her mind we'll be here.

The only non-web site based communications will likely be a mailing for our 55th reunion.  I don't envison any other outreach at this time for a number of reasons including cost.

Thanks for your feedback...Vinnie

Vinnie,

Strangly enough, there was a message on my phone tonight from Karen. We haven't spoken in several months, and she said she wants to go to dinner with me this week. I will talk to her about this, and I am happy you responded so quickly to my message.

I loved going to the reunion and look forward to the next one. I read and enjoy all the posts from the others. It is nice to stay connneted to every one.

Ginny

Good dialogue, Ginny and Vinnie, about our classmates who are uncomfortable with computers and email. I agree that we have to respect their feelings but as Vinnie says, if and when they're ready to connect with the class digitally the web site will be there for them to join.

Meanwhile, we continue to think of the 80-90 or so of our classmates not on the web site there should be many who do email but just haven't gotten around to joining our great web site community. We hope in the months to come many of them will join us.

And if any of you reading this forum know of classmates who haven't yet joined the web site but do email please reach out to them and encourage them to sign up at www.aphs1962.com. It's simple to join- just Check "Getting Started" on the home page.

Regina,

What a coincidence to hear from Karen when you did.  I suspect she’ll be surprised to hear about all the attention she has garnered the past few days.  Who knows, perhaps fate may lend a hand here with Karen reconsidering joining the web site, especially after attending and enjoying our 55th reunion so much.

If there is anything we can do please let Karen know we are here to assist and as Steve rightfully points out the site is secure and very user-friendly.

Enjoy your visit and dinner…Vinnie
